The Monterey Peninsula is nearly synonymous with world-class golf, and we are fortunate to regularly play these spectacular courses. The Pebble Beach Golf Links, of course, speaks for itself. But, don't forget the other public and private courses within Pebble Beach: Spyglass Hill, Spanish Bay, Poppy Hills, Monterey Peninsula Country Club and Cypress Point. Overall, this area might represent the single best golf venue on the planet.
Beyond Pebble Beach, the Carmel Valley is home to several great public courses. Among our favorites are Rancho Canada, Quail Lodge and Carmel Valley Ranch, as well as the area's newest addition to the Golf Digest "America's 100 Greatest" list: The Preserve. It's a phenomenal new, private Tom Fazio course, and both Mike Canning and Stan Lent are members.
Del Monte Golf Course in Monterey is the oldest continuously operating course west of the Mississippi, and the Pacific Grove Golf Links features some of the best ocean view golf value in California. Two other important courses are on the former Fort Ord. Black Horse is a challenge. Its sister course, Bayonet, is perhaps the toughest course in the area and has hosted PGA Q-School qualifiers. Clint Eastwood's Tehama is perched on a ridge on the north side of Carmel Valley with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and the Monterey Bay. Located between Monterey and Salinas, Pasadera is a private Jack Nicklaus course and another fairly recent addition to the local menu.
Steve LaVaute is also a member of Monterey Peninsula Country Club, which offers a pair of stunning oceanfront links. Each hole is designed to take full advantage of the surrounding natural splendor.
